In this tutorial, you will find a step-by-step guide to transform the Punchy sewing pattern into a superb plunging neckline on the back, all by yourself!

1. What you need

  • Stretch fabric such as : jersey, microfiber, stretch mesh.
  • Fold-over elastic.
  • Elastic belt, with a soft face.
  • A hook & eye, according to your belt width.
  • Punchy sewing pattern.

2. Pattern alterations

transform punchy sewing pattern We are going to start the alteration of the pattern on piece n° 2, corresponding to the Sports back.
taking measurements lingerie sewing pattern After taking your measurements and determining the size to cut, isolate your pattern size.
draw new middle back line Draw a hollow line between the inside point of the shoulder seam, and the seam allowance in the middle of the back.
shoulder seam At the shoulder seam, draw a line perpendicular to the curve you just drew.
shoulder length Transfer the length of the shoulder seam to this perpendicular line, to ensure that you will have the same seam lengths between the shoulder in front and back.
side seams Come and position the piece n° 3 ( the front part of the Sport version) at the side seam, overlapping the seam allowance.
Here, they are 5 mm ( 13⁄64 in) on the front, and 5 mm ( 13⁄64 in) on the back.
armhole line Then draw a new armhole line starting from the shoulder seam, to the underarm of the front.

To avoid the underarm part being too covering, do not hesitate to lower the side seam line by 1 cm ( 3⁄8 in ).
shoulder seams At the shoulder seam, overlap the seam values one on the other.

Here, they are 5 mm ( 13⁄64 in) on the front, and 5 mm ( 13⁄64 in) on the back.

To avoid that the neckline in front is too covering, do not hesitate to lower the neckline by 1 cm ( 3⁄8 in ).
elastic length And to finish, you just have to calculate the new lengths of pre-folded elastic you will need :


Neckline elastic length :
(front neckline length x2) + (back neckline length x2) x elastic coefficient of 0.96


Armhole elastic length :
(front armhole length + back armhole length) x elastic coefficient of 0.96
